Lighting fireworks in Wassenaar
From Thursday December 31 10:00 a.m. to Friday January 1 02:00 a.m. it is permitted to light fireworks. Lighting fireworks is liable to cause fires. Particularly vulnerable are forests, dunes and residential or other buildings with thatched roofs.
Strictly prohibited within a range of
30 meters from residences or buildings with thatched roofs and within 100 meters from wooded- and dune areas, it is strictly prohibited to light or set off any fireworks.
Strict rules for high flying fireworks
High flying fireworks (rockets, Roman Candles, etc.) are subject to stricter rules. Lighting so-called high fireworks is only permitted outside a range of 250 meters from residences or buildings with thatched roofs or from wooded- and dune areas.
Non- propelled or low flying fireworks
may be lit at a distance of more than 30 meters of residences or buildings with thatched roofs and more than 100 meters away from wooded- and dune areas. Maximum propulsion distance of this category of fireworks is strictly limited to 10 meters from the spot where it is set off. Always read the instructions of the firework with care
Never light a fuse by means of an open flame (lighter, match); use a burning cigarette or cigar, preferably tied to a two feet long stick. Place rockets etc. with their grip in an empty bottle, "walled in" by stones against over-turning to be sure of a safe and vertical take off.
Keep a safe distance! This also goes for hand-fireworks like crackers etc. Never light this type of fireworks in your hand, but place them on the ground. Never throw fire-works with an ignited fuse and specifically not in the direction of people or animals!
Don't try to make your own fireworks. No matter how much fun experimenting with chemistry may seem to you, no matter how mathematically foolproof you may think you have worked out its effect, in practice things often turn out differently, sometimes even become lethal.
What’s more, it is strictly prohibited and severely punishable. Violators of this rule even risk prison sentences. The same can be said of experiments with the linking of fuses of legalized fireworks:extremely dangerous and punishable by law. Igniting fireworks in a confined space like a room guarantees a big bang, but afterwards often even a hearing aid won’t help anymore.
Don't be too impatient and eager to pick up fireworks that didn't go off. It's safer to wait one minute than to be handicapped for the rest of your life. You will surely understand that things like letting off fire-works in shops, mailboxes or other "fun" spots are not only in utterly bad taste, they are also strictly prohibited by law.
