Water
Dunea supplies drinking water to 1.2 million inhabitants via 566,000 mains connections in 27 municipalities in the The Hague and Leiden region. The water originates from the dunes between Katwijk and Monster, which are used as natural filters for river water which is first transported from the Dammed Meuse or Afgedamde Maas at Brakel near Gorinchem to the Bergambacht pumping station.
There it undergoes initial treatment before being pumped to the dune area. Via a system of infiltration beds, this water gradually finds its way down into the dunes, where it mixes with sedimentary water. After around two months the resultant ‘dune water’ is pumped up and then processed to form drinking water.
When moving into a new house it's not generally necessary to contact the water company. Billing changes are undertaken with the rental contract or mortgage.
