Gemeente Wassenaar - Parking ticket

Parking ticket

If you are not able to find parking hours when looking for a parking spot, be sure to look for the blue rectangular zone sign which will indicate parking restrictions.

You have received a parking ticket, now what?

Usually a ticket is issued by the Municipality of Wassenaar for parking issues. The notice "Aankondiging van een beschikking" refers to such a traffic violation.

You are able to identify the inspector of the public area in Wassenaar responsible for issuing your ticket by checking the last four digits at the top of the parking ticket, 9707, 6175 or 9782.

If it is unclear why you have received the parking ticket, you can contact the Department of Supervision and Enforcement on week days from 09.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m., or phone (070) 51 22 477.

Details regarding the parking ticket

The centre of Wassenaar is a so-called blue parking zone. Vehicles may only be parked here for short periods of time. From Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. the maximum parking time permitted is 2 hours. There is also a small area where the maximum parking time is only half an hour. In every street there always is a zone sign indicating the amount of time allowed.

Once you have passed the zone sign, you have entered the zone to which the time applies. You have to clearly indicate your time of arrival by means of a parking disc placed behind your windscreen on the dashboard of your car. The parking permit must be clearly visible from outside the car. Furthermore, the time of arrival on the parking permit must  be set manually.  Changing the disc in the interim is not permitted. The parking disc may be purchased at supermarkets or some of the bookstores in the neighbourhood.

What is the further procedure?

In most cases a ticket is issued due to a traffic violation. In a couple of weeks the owner of the car registration number will receive notification  in a letter containing a decision accompanied by a payment slip at their home address from the Central Fine Collection Agency (Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau) which is an implementing organisation of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice. This letter sets out the details of the violation (which violation/offence code, where and when it took place, established by whom, etc.).

If you do not agree with the imposed fine you can lodge an appeal with the public prosecutor in The Hague. The period for lodging an appeal is six weeks and starts on the date following the dispatch date of the decision. An appeal that is sent by post is deemed to be lodged in due time if it is posted by the end of the period within which an appeal can be lodged unless it is received more than a week after the expiry date. The date of the postmark is decisive.
