Identification papers
Compulsory ID
Are you obliged to carry identification in the Netherlands?
As of the 1st of January 2005 it is compulsory for everyone from the age of 14 years onwards to carry proof of identity.
Police may ask you to show this. If you cannot comply with the request, you may be fined. The following documents are accepted as valid proof of identity:
- Passport
- European identity card
- Driving license
