Have you passed your test? The CBR will enter your personal data into their database so that the municipality can see them. You can obtain your driver’s license at the municipality.
The Dutch Driving Test Organisation (Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen – CBR) promotes traffic safety by evaluating the driving ability, medical fitness and expertise of drivers in the Netherlands. Together with its most important partners, the driving schools, CBR prepares (aspiring) users of mopeds, motorcycles and cars, as well as professional drivers, for safe participation in traffic.
Exchanging foreign driving licenses
In certain cases, the driving license that you obtained outside the Netherlands can be exchanged for a Dutch driving license. However this is only possible if you are resident in the Netherlands and you have a valid residence permit. Valid driving licenses issued in the following countries can be exchanged:

Request procedure
You can apply for a license or prolong it at the Civic Affairs department in the Municipal Office building.
Documents required.
In order to be admitted to the theory test you will need to provide the following documents:
- A legally recognized, valid form of identification
- A recent passport photo
- Your old driver’s license
- If your driver’s license has been stolen your official police record of theft.
